I am currently working with our local communities in Zimbabwe in providing education in production through skills training. I focus on young people who do not have the required minimum standard of education, the “five ‘O’ levels threshold”. These young people are popularly known as “the lost generation”. This model is restoring hope and confidence amongst young people through a curriculum showing how they can play a significant role in community development. This is demonstrated through construction of classrooms, making steel door frames, window frames and various horticulture products for food security.

The General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level, also called the O-level or O level, is a subject-based academic qualification. Introduced in 1951 as a replacement for existing 16+ School Certificate (SC), the O-level would act as a pathway to the new, more in-depth and academically rigorous A-level (Advanced Level), in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.[1] Later the complementary and more vocational Certificate of Secondary Education (CSE) was added to broaden the subjects available and offer qualifications in no academic subjects. The O-Level and CSE were replaced in the United Kingdom, in 1988, by the GCSE and later complementary IGCSE exams.

GCE O-level (Ordinary level) subjects
From 1951 to 1962 students were recorded as having reached the Ordinary standard in subjects in which they were successful. Pass = 45/100
From 1963 to 1974 success in Ordinary level subjects was indicated as a Pass. Grades 1-6 = Pass, grades 7-9 = Fail
From 1975 to 1987 attainment in an Ordinary level subject was indicated by a grade A, B, C, D or E of which grade A was the highest and grade E the lowest. Students awarded grade A, B, or C reached the standard of the former subject pass at Ordinary level. Grade D indicated a lower standard of attainment judged by the awarding body to be of sufficient standard to be recorded. Performances below the standard of grade E were ungraded and not recorded on the certificate.

http://jan.ucc.nau.edu/~jar/ILAC/ILAC_4.pdf
"Another fact that demonstrates the continued dominance of English is the fact that the minimum pass level in Zimbabwe is five “O” (Ordinary) level subjects, and one of these five subjects should be English. Generally, without a pass in “O” level English, one cannot be considered for further education and employment."
https://www.studylands.com/es/guia-paises/ZW-education.htm

: Thanks for the link! Very interesting project, even if it doesn't appear to be the answer to this question.
