The present waterfront is a broad intertidal flat, of slope 1V:50H or flatter, composed of large cobbles, finer sands intermixed between the cobbles, and outcroppings of bedrock. The intertidal flat extends to low tide datum, presumed to be approximately one kilometer off the beach. The **back beach** rises steeply from elevation +4 m MLWS to a dry land elevation of +6 m MLWS or higher.
