Asker: Aquí tengo más información, que me hace pensar que "desierto" no es lo que busco: Their saddle bags laden with copper ore from the Faynan district in Jordan, the expedition team has reached the Wilderness of Zin in the Negev desert, mid-way to the Beersheva Valley and Shiqmim.

Explanation:
si no quieres desierto pq se te repite con el del Neguev, entonces podrias traducir wilderness por tierras inhóspitas, o algo por el estilo.
Wilderness también puede traducirse por "yermo".

de todas maneras, todo sea dicho, yo utilizaría desierto del Sin, ya que es un nombre geográfico y debería respetarse.
