English term or phrase: this book reveals who he was, who illustrated him
This is a paragraph from a book that explains the origin of the first tattooed man in an island.
in context " This book explains what is the tattooed man real identity? What can his life tell us about the history of the island ? This book reveals who he was, who illustrated him, and how he transcended the tragic event...."

The problem is the word "illustrate" do you thing it means who did his tattoos?
