queer Explanation: I would use queer in Spanish. In the past, this term was translated as marica but the word has a negative connotation,it's offensive; therefore, they started using queer in Spanish as well. As regards "ze", we don't have a neutral pronoun like this in Spanish yet, but we are starting to use what is known as "inclusive language" (I'm in Argentina) but this is still not accepted by RAE (the Royal Academy of Spanish). As Spanish is a pretty binary language, a few years ago, the word "elle" and some other words ending in "e" came as a proposal as neutral pronouns that would mean neither masculine nor feminine or that could also mean both. This emerged in the field of transfeminist blogs as an attempt to identify people of non-binary gender, as well as people of unknown gender, generic people, or mixed gender groups. So I would leave queer for "queer" and I think that you could use "elle" for "ze" but bearing in mind that these term are not accepted by RAE but at least queer does appear in the Fundéu dictionary. https://www.fundeu.es/noticia/diccionario-lgtb-guia-de-conceptos-de-un-lenguaje-inclusivo/ |
