I agree with McNohara and Jorge about "confundir". In this case it's not about "perder" but about "confundir" [DRAE: "Mezclar, fundir cosas diversas, de manera que no puedan reconocerse o distinguirse."] They're saying that the "potential" feasibility is not the same as the final result, outcome or effect -- which will require the numbers, experience and technology. The project/treatment/proposal [whatever this article is about] is feasible, but much has to be done to bring it to "fruition" (realizarlo). And that it would be a "mistake" to think that the seed/potential and the fruit/realization are the same.
