I am more sure of the "palmoteo de canto" in the context mentioned of vets, but just wanted to add it actually may mean "masajes con el dorso de la mano"... I don't really know if it may depend on context, but I certainly know it for veterinaries as "Palmoteo de canto" (using the exterior sides of the hand).
