Tal y como ya apunta Thilo Müller en comentarios (y Brusna en respuesta), imagino que se refiere a respiradores IPPB; respiradores con sistemas de ventilación a presión positiva intermitente (IPPB versus CPAP & BiPAP ventilators), como los sistemas de oxigenación de alto flujo mediante cánula nasal. No obstante, esta descripción u otras, como respiradores intermitentes (o "no continuos"), aunque presentes en la literatura, no son muy frecuentes.
