English term or phrase: To have it dashed so summarily
I submitted my resume to a recruiting agency with hopes of finding a suitable job. One day, I was invited for an interview. Being very early, I was waiting in the car outside the building when God said, “This is not the place where your job will be.” And, it was not. But being called in for an interview was a momentary excitement where hope swells up. To have it dashed so summarily was difficult and disappointing. On top of this, I was becoming increasingly anxious as my book was almost complete. I needed to do something. But what? I certainly did not ask God if this erstwhile messenger of His should find a fancy corporate job. No, I made no “demands.”

Spanish translation:para verla esfumarse de manera tan fulminate
Explanation:
"La" here assumes that "ilusión" has been used in the previous sentence to translate "hope."

verla defraudada/destrozada // desvanecerse (tan) de golpe/de repente/repentinamente

Explanation:
