Tech/Engineering - Ships, Sailing, Maritime / Naval Form Terminology
English term or phrase: VAR
Hello everyone,

Context: The name of the form is LOG-NAVIGATION DATA SHEET. It can even be downloaded empty on pdf from google. In the one I have, the information for a ship´s journey is filled in. There are many terms here I cannot find in my dictionaries.

The term:
In one column, this is written.
"VAR"

I assume it could be "variation", because one column is named "gyro crs/brg", while another is called "true crs/brg".
Maybe this column should show the variation between both, but it´s all blank.
Every line under "gyro" was filled in with an "M". Every line under "true", was filled in with a "V".

I would assume a lot of this naval vocabulary, is standardized. So...

My try:
"VAR"

Thank you for any help.

variación/declinación
Explanation:

• “Magnetic Variation - The angular difference between true north and magnetic north. Also known as declination”. Fuente: https://www.thebalancecareers.com/aircraft-navigation-terms-...

• “Magnetic declination, or magnetic variation, is the angle on the horizontal plane between magnetic north (…) and true north”. Fuente: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnetic_declination

This is an intersting subject.
There are plenty of texts that describe what a cpmpass displays and the way it needs adjusting to draw on a chart.
