The ID cycle reads all the ID registers of all devices on the Interbus ring, to form a configuration image of the system in the controller card. The ID cycle is carried out when starting up the system. After a successful ID cycle the Interbus devices on the ring are switched from the ID registers to the data registers, and only data cycles are then transmitted.
