Ok jag associerade till modern krigföring utifrån din första beskrivning."the big push" får åtminstone mig som historielärare att anknyta till första världskrigets skyttegravskrig. Några förslag: Anfall i fullt språng...besinningslöst anfall, storma fram... snågot kanske passar, lycka till.

Asker: More like "push the enemy off the field", a change in the battle situation when one army is able to force the opponent to retreat

Asker: Intressant länk! Som jag skrev ovan utgörs en del av problemet av att det handlar om hur man ska översätta ordet "othismos" från klassisk grekiska, vilket jag inte är rätt person att avgöra. Men den text jag jobbar med är kritisk till den nuvarande allmänna uppfattningen inom klassisk forskning att hopliterna knuffades och formligen tryckte stridslinjerna mot varandra tills en av linjerna gav vika. Han vill i stället associera till just "big push" med den betydelse det har i modern krigföring, t ex 1.a världskriget.

  -> Fel i sak, om någonting påskyndade tyska arméns sammanbrott på östfronten var det A-offensiven fast detta är inte relevant i detta sammanhang. Begreppet "big push" myntades i samband med slaget vid Somme 1916 vilken som bekant ej heller blev ngn framgång.
