A crossing man/woman:-
A crossing guard (United States and Canada), a school crossing patrol officer (United Kingdom), school crossing supervisor (Australia) or school road patrol (New Zealand) is a traffic management specialist who is normally stationed on busy roadways to aid pedestrians. Often associated with elementary school children, crossing guards temporarily stop the flow of traffic so pedestrians may cross an intersection. Crossing guards are known by a variety of names, the most widely used in the United Kingdom and Australia being "lollipop lady/man", a reference to the large signs used that resemble lollipops. Is there a Turkish equivalent for this?
Do the Turkish children, crossing a main road, have a man or woman helping thr children to cross the road to stop the traffic to enable a safe passage to the children?

There is such a voluntary community service in some places. It is rather new and those who are designated to provide the service are called "okul geçit görevlisi." How do kids call them? I wouldn't know.

This is the nearest to the UK term as the people concerned are volunteers, not police. They were introduced to enable policemen, who had previously run crossing patrols, to perform other duties. All the contributions here are very useful. Aziz's amca & abla seems a natural way for children to address such volunteers. Thanks to all concerned.
