Мені здається, це використано в значенні "publicity". Певно, що реклама ближче до товару, але все ж таки і людей рекламують, чи не так? "Сприятимуть популярності" (надрукують фото, підпишуть кілька слів, хтось запам"ятає. Оце і буде "promotion".
