inter-season or pre-season ready to wear fashion collection Explanation: see here for explanation http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cruise_collection A cruise collection or resort collection, sometimes also referred to as holiday or travel collection (collection croisière, in French), is an inter-season or pre-season line of ready-to-wear clothing produced by a fashion house or fashion brand in addition to the recurrent twice-yearly seasonal collections - spring/summer and autumn (or fall)/winter - heralded at the fashion shows in New York, London, Paris and Milan http://fashion.telegraph.co.uk/news-features/TMG8207498/What... More dedicated followers of fashion will have long been aware of the existence of pre-fall and resort (or cruise) collections, but for those of you that live in a world where spring/summer and autumn/winter pretty much covers the seasons, allow me to explain. Pictures: Our pick of the pre-fall collections 'Resort' or 'cruise' is the collection that lands in stores around November to fill the gap between autumn/winter (which arrives in store in September), and spring/summer (in store February). Originally targeted at wealthy customers jetting off to warmer climes in winter (hence 'cruise'), the collection would historically be full of light summer clothing and swimwear. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2 hrs (2014-06-05 04:14:56 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Here is another link giving more information. It seems that this also refers to year round clothing for wearing in warmer holiday resorts. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Resort_wear Resort wear is a specialized clothing style, as well as a year-round fashion "season". Sometimes known as "cruise wear", it was originally marketed by "upscale" stores and collections only to very affluent customers who were expected to spend the post-Christmas/New Year's weeks in warm-weather climates. |
