English term or phrase: confirm off control
I am translating a specification for a PLC-based airfield lighting control and monitoring system.
One of the main parts of the system is the main control screen. This screen has a mimic diagram of the airport to display the overall status of the airfield ground lighting system. The main screen also provides a number of control functions directly from the screen or via auxiliary pop-up screen controls: runway direction selection, landing / take-off operation selection, individual controls for the runway lighting system, taxiway common intensity and segment on/off controls etc.

And there is this control feedback functionality:
,,Control Feedback
(i) Each control selection shall be confirmed by a sound.
(ii) It shall be possible to configure confirmation (no confirmation, confirm off control, confirm all controls) response to the different controls separately. Confirmation shall be done with pop-up screens.
(iii) The control buttons shall indicate their authority status with control texts colours: black = authorized to control, grey = not authorized.
(iv) The control buttons shall indicate the controls activity status with colours: dark grey = not active ie no devices to control, other colours = active.’’

I know what ‘’confirm off’’ means, but I don’t understand what ‘’confirm OFF control’’ means in this particular context. Or should it read ‘’confirm off A control’’?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

confirm only a control to turn something off
Explanation:
You say "I know what ‘’confirm off’’ means,..." but I wonder if you really do? If you did, then this shouldn't puzzle you so much.

In the options given, you have:

no confirmation, = don't give confirmation for any controls
confirm off control, = give confirmation for 'off' controls only (the more safety-critical ones!)
confirm all controls = give confirmation for all controls (e.g. both 'off' and 'on' controls)

Hope that answers your question?

I am assuming we are talking about controls to turn airfield lights on and off. Clearly, if the lights are left on by mistake, this will not matter very much, other than in terms of the power consumption!

However, leaving the lights off when a plane is coming in to land could obviously be a much more serious matter — hence why I believe this would be important, and the relevance of this option.

neutral  Polangmar: Confirm off: Only off-controls need to be confirmed. (Landing/take-off: only take-off controls need to be confirmed) http://tinyurl.com/q9dz8ws So "I wonder if etc".

-> Thanks, but I don't think it's anything to do with taking off; I believe this is a question of turning the landing lights 'on' or 'off', as we can read in the context as given: "PLC-based airfield lighting control and monitoring system".
