"The subcontractor will comply with whatever is required under direction of the contractor to ensure the contractor can obtain relevant certificates, snagging and making good defects and has included it in his price".

This makes no sense to me whatsoever, what would snagging mean in this context, and what on Earth are good defects?!

3.3.3 Snagging
Snagging (or the correction of faults) is often carried out after the building has been ‘completed’. The work forms part of a zero-rated building contract, provided you carried out the initial building work and the snagging forms part of that building contract.

You can read it as "to make good the defects" or "to make good on the defects" which is simply to "rectify" any defects.

neutral  B D Finch: Many potentially outstanding issues at the end of a construction contract would not come under the heading of "snagging", e.g. obtaining necessary certificates. I once found at handover that the block had been built 20 cm too close to the boundary!

disagree  Chris Foster: This is too general, there can be many issues that need resolving which are complete ly separate from the "snagging". What is being referred to is the subcontractors own inspection of the work.

agree  Chris Foster: The HMRC site is looking at the VAT implications- making good defects after practical completion is not strictly speaking "snagging" it is the main contractor making good outstanding defects at practical completion -after the occupier has moved in.
