English translation: literally the "second brother" in line for the family's inheritance

English term or phrase: second brother
In a film (dialogue in Cantonese, subtitles in English), a "second brother" and a "second daughter" are mentioned. The straight forward meaning doesn't seem to make any sense, as the man only has ONE brother and ONE daughter.

Hence my question: anyone out there able to tell me whether a COUSIN ("second brother") and a NIECE ("second daughter") are meant? Am afraid my Cantonese is not sufficient ;o)

many thanks in advance

Please see the wording.....second cousins/nieces/nephews are different from second brother/sisters. A second brother would be, the second child born to a set of parents.
