English term or phrase: residual tidal current
In the case of winds blowing north, the wind produced an upwelling. The resulting alongshore component of the transport was northward, but an additional perpendicular drift tended to spread coastal waters toward the external continental shelf and the continental slope. This dispersal favoured interaction with the offshore currents flowing southward along the slope, the Tsugaru and Oyashio Currents, as well as the residual tidal current.

I found this about not the same context, of course!
residual current noun an electric current which flows briefly in a circuit after the voltage is reduced to zero, due to the momentum of the charge carriers.

disagree  Daryo: Doesn't make any sense for this ST - you are trying to fit "residual=small" in a way that is like pushing square pegs in round holes!

The tidal residual current may play an important role in the mean flow in the Changjiang Bank region, in addition to other residual currents, such as the Taiwan.

I think this means that the tidal current never disappears completely

Asker: It is not important how I am going to use this explanation because I simply can use a footnote or brackets to add these details. The point is that we are not sure that what this word means! Thanks for your attention.
