volumes Explanation: You're right, "volume" refers to the top-level structure of a storage medium (hard disk, pendrive, etc.) which serves to identify the place of storage, rather than holding any actual data. Most commonly: "drive" or "partition". The term was adopted in IT by analogy with "volumes" in the book world (think of "volumes" of an encyclopedia). |
