English term or phrase:sitting with truth
Hi, I’m not sure about the meaning of "sitting with truth" in the passage below. The author is describing the limits of language. Thank you very much for any hint!
Words are information, as they are symbols for something other than the energy pattern of which they are composed. But even as representations, as symbols of sound or light, the terms such as grasping and understanding don’t fully capture the essence of deep comprehension, of ** sitting with truth **, of seeing clearly, and perhaps nothing short of the inner sensation of clarity will.

Actually I think that all of your proposals contain a part of truth, since I’ve found that “to sit with” seems to be an expression commonly used in meditation as a sort of synonym for “presence”, that is “being open and receptive to all that emerges as it emerges”, being fully aware of something.

in the meanwhile I've found a sort of "formal" definition of "sit with" taken from the practice of meditation. Actually I knew the expression "stay with"...I'm wondering whether it might have the same meaning as "sit with"...

"sitting with" is derived from the practice of meditation, where one simply sits and holds awareness. In other words, the physical act of sitting is a model for being present with thoughts, emotions, and sensations (Magid, n.d.)
No need to explain. I was just trying to make a lighthearted comment - guess the joke failed. Considering that most web pages I found were in reference to India, etc. (e.g., someone quoting from the Bible, but concluding his or her blog entry with "Namaste"), I think Charles is on to something here.
Actually I wasn't referring giving birth to six children, I didn't express myself very well. I was thinking about feeding, bathing, changing nappies (diapers) and generally looking after six children at the same time.
I wanted to keep away from accidents, wars and other kinds of news.

Surely it's like when we hear news items about things that have happened to people we don't know. An example would be giving birth to sextuplets. We hear the news, we understand what's happened but try as we might, we don't really comprehend what it must be like to give birth to six children at the same time!
I think the author is trying to distinguish between a sort of "top-down" knowledge obtainable through symbols like language and a more direct, "immediate" understanding, something we can also "feel" at a sensory and bodily level, without the distance from experience that symbols and representations can create.

I would take a chance on interpreting “sitting with truth” in this context as having that feeling of experiencing something fully, in its completeness. The sensation of looking at something and being enlightened by it, as if everything, just for a moment, made complete sense.
for your suggestions! I was trying to imagine what "sit with truth" might look like... maybe, it is a sort of "being face to face with truth", "confronting truth", along the lines of your proposals...
1. Expressing/reflecting the truth 2. Accepting the truth But I don't think the text is very well written or easy to understand.
