English term or phrase: Update
Please tell me the differences between "update", "renew" and "completely replace" when we use them in the product engineering/manufacturing field.
I know the terms "complete replacement" and "renew" are the same meaning and are used when the existing product deteriorates and needs to be "renewed" and "completely replaced" with new one. But how about "update"? Is this the same meaning as them? or Does this mean "partially replacing of the product" such as parts replacement?

Update - change the spark plugs, oil, oil filter and air filter
Renew - New pistons and crankshaft bearings
Completely replace - a new engine.

In particular, note that "renew" and "completely replace" don't have to be the same thing (but they could be in some industries/companies).
