Felt is non-woven! 09:51 Jul 28, 2011
That's the essence of it. It is also a non-directional material, because the fibres have to be layered at different angles to make them adhere to each other and create an even cloth. It can be made of soft or tough fibres, the result can be thin, light soft felt, or a thick, tought material, depending on the intended use. The thickness can be considerable, to make the felt totally rigid, like a plank. Of course, lining felt is just a moderately thick, soft, sound-absorbing and protective material. |
