English term or phrase: grain
I have doubts understanding this sentence:
When cleaning the exterior, always rub with the “grain” of the stainless steel to avoid marring the finish.

It is about cleaning a refrigerator. I am not sure what "rub with the “grain” of the stainless steel" actually means.

Explanation:
I assume that this is a stainless steel that has some kind of special surface finish, because normally you can't see a "grain" on stainless steel. So what it's saying is that, just like the fridge was made of wood, you should always rub along the pattern rather than across it.
