English translation: before

English language (monolingual) [PRO]
Medical - Medical (general)
English term or phrase: within x (days, weeks) of study entry
Here is the medical text for patients, who wants to participate in a clinical trial:

"You cannot be in the study if:
• You have been receiving corticosteroids at a dose >10 mg of prednisone daily (or equivalent) and have not been receiving a stable dosing regimen within 2 weeks of study entry or within 6 weeks of planned randomization."

Does "within x weeks of" mean "before" in this case?

Selected answer:before
Explanation:
The construction "have not been receiving" implies that you are not on the drugs now, as in you fulfil these conditions before taking part in the study. If it also included after the study, it would say something like "will not be receiving" as well / instead.

but it refers to weeks in your question so it means "weeks" before entering the study program(me)

in other words: over the 2 weeks prior to entering the study program(me)
