English term or phrase: the closest example
I don\'t really understand this terms in this context.
It is closest to what, exactly?
Help, please!

Context:

Here is something to consider ; there has not been a pharmaceutical drug that has ever cured a disease (cured meaning it’s gone forever, forgotten, and nobody needs to take any drugs or have surgery for that disease ever again).
Antibiotics would be the closest example but the tendency to kill all bacteria, not just the bacteria causing symptoms, end up creating more health problems for the patient.

not the exact example, but quite close to that
Explanation:
Author means that antibiotics are _almost_ the drug that "cures" as stated in previous paragraph, but not completely. They are an example of the drug that is close to that definition of a cure, but not the exact example of it.

agree  Michael Barnett: I wonder about the ethics of translating such drivel. Smallpox, which killed an estimated 300 million people in the 20th century alone has been eradicated due to vaccination. The comment about antibiotics is also a misrepresentation.
