Explanation:
So, if your own medical insurance includes a clause to the effect that your medical treatment caused by participating as a guinea-pig in medical trials will not be covered by them, I read it that the sponsors would foot the whole bill themselves.

The Sponsor will pay everything (it deems reasonable) that is not covered by the insurance, e.g. the "reasonable" costs of the treatment are said to be 10,000 Euro. If the insurance would pay only Euro 7,000 Euro, the rest (3,000 Euro) would be paid by the Sponsor.
