English language (monolingual) [PRO]
Music / reflection of a music student about his/her own composition
English term or phrase: a free range of interpretation of ideas and motifs
This musical composition is based around the character Tess in 'Tess of the D'Urbervilles'. I had to read the book for English and really like the character of Tess. I thought that it would be interesting to write a piece of music about her development and show the different moods she enconunters in the novel. I also felt that this way it would give me ***a free range of interpretation of ideas and motifs*** to express in the music.

Selected answer:the possibility of writing an unstructured piece of music ...
Explanation:
I think the student is saying that by choosing the emotional life of a character in a novel as the inspiration for their piece of music they could be less formal in the structure of the piece and include a wide range of moods.
