a cadence that is not resolved Explanation: A cadence in music indicates the end of a phrase or section, rather like a full stop in language. Its effect is heard as the creation and resolution of tension (see also my answer to http://www.proz.com/kudoz/English/music/3247844-cadential_su... In a cadential hiatus the tension is not resolved: instead of the expected chord or note the music goes in a different direction leaving an unfinished feeling to this part of the piece. |
