standard Explanation: 'Ready' in this context is like 'existing' or 'already drawn up' and therefore 'standard' criteria. Perhaps this Kudoz question and answer may be useful: http://www.proz.com/kudoz/english_to_spanish/chemistry;_chem... |

technical term in this context for testing procedure/level Explanation: I think that you are probably dealing with a very technical definition of "ready biodegradability" in the context of biodegradation as described below. Ready in this sense in general does most probably mean readily or easily. "Biodegradation is a major process for removing chemicals from aquatic and terrestrial environments. Laboratory tests can be used to indicate the propensity of a compound to biodegrade. The Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD)1 has divided biodegradation testing into three distinct categories as follows: Ready Biodegradability Tests of “Ready Biodegradability” are stringent tests designed to provide limited opportunity for biodegradation and acclimatization of microorganisms to a chemical to occur. Chemicals which pass OECD Ready Biodegradability criteria in these tests are not expected to persist in the environment. Results of biodegradability tests conducted within Dow laboratories, using procedures similar to OECD Ready Biodegradability tests1 are shown in Table 1." http://msdssearch.dow.com/PublishedLiteratureDOWCOM/dh_0044/... |
