disagree  Attila Piróth: No, this is an oversimplification. The difference between the yield point and the break point is crucial (not mentioned in your answer). I would certainly avoid picturing this with a braided rope, and the strain on the branch is not tensile type.

  -> Thanks for your comment! Yes, the branch of the tree I mentioned ought to be imagined as non-bending. Oversimplification was necessary to make the meaning clear. It is good to speak in simple. easily understandable terms, rather than speaking in new jargo
