sponsor I don't think so. Explanation: Thesaurus.com gives "godparent" among the synonyms, but that's not the same thing. Wikipedia defines sponsor in general as "May refer to a person or organization with some sort of responsibility for another person or organisation", which might be said to cover it in a vague sort of way, but that's the closest I can find. |
