lay-off and recall redundancy REDUNDANCY Explanation: 13.01 There shall be no lay-off from the bargaining unit until a reasonable attempt has been made to make the necessary reductions in the work force through attrition subject to the exigencies of the operation. 13.02 The Employer may declare a position redundant when there is no longer a need for that position due to a lack of work, a reorganization of duties, or a reduction of services. When a position is declared redundant, the decision and the reason for it shall be explained to the incumbent at a meeting with her/his supervisor, the appropriate Dean or Director and a representative of the employer and the union. 13.03 The formal notice of redundancy from the Vice-President (Finance & Administration) shall indicate the date the position must be vacated and shall be given to the employee at a second meeting to be held within 5 working days of the initial meeting. A copy of this formal notice shall be sent to the Union. A representative of the Union shall be present at this second meeting. The reasons for the redundancy and the plan for what will happen to the duties of the redundant position will be provided in writing to the employee and the union, if requested in advance by the union. |
