طبقات مرفه از آن رو که با تفريحات گوناگون اجتماعي و بدون محدوديت اقتصادي، اوقات فراغت خود را طي مي‌کنند، چندان به مطالعه رغبت ندارند و طبقات ضعيف نيز از آن جهت که با مشکلات مختلف معيشتي دست به گريبان هستند، مجالي براي مطالعه ندارند. در اين ميان، افزايش قيمت کتاب در سال‌هاي اخير موجب شده بخشي از طبقة متوسط و به خصوص دانشجويان که مهم‌ترين قشر کتاب‌خوان جامعه هستند نيز به تدريج از خير خريد کتاب بگذرند و به همان فضاي مجازي پناه ببرند.

نکته‌اي که مي‌تواند محملي براي دولت باشد که بخشي از حذف يارانه‌هاي انرژي و غيرضروري را به خريد کتاب از اين اقشار اختصاص دهد که البته مي‌دانم در شرايط فعلي، درخواستي غيرضروري و به دور از اولويت‌هاي دولت محسوب مي‌شود.
