used to drudgery/difficult life

Explanation:
can you provide more context?

In the Iranian context, dogs have a difficult life. In particular, street dogs have a miserable life. Keeping and having dogs is not really part of Iranian culture like it is in the the US or Europe.

I'm tougher now

Explanation:
it means that I'm stronger now, and nothing can bring me down. it is used because Iranians believe that dog has 7 lives and if it has to be killed 7 times to actually die!
