I have always been curious at the connotation of salt with hospitality, and other things. I assume this goes back a long way in cultural traditions.

سفید چشم is another way to say چشم سفید...I saw it in my dictionary while looking for some explanation. I don't know what the connection is between "eye" and "white" to mean "shameless"...maybe one of our native speakers can shed some light?

نمک به حروم is the colloquial for نمک به حرام...there are a number of expressions in Persian related to hospitality that use "salt"..."to eat someone's bread and salt" for example...someone who does not observe this is considered ungrateful...another phrase is نمک نشناس
