extra railing / siding Explanation: The term (spelled correctly) seems to be "lisäpinnat". In the context of a bed, a "pinna" is a vertical bar forming a siding or a wall to prevent the occupant from falling out of the bed. A baby's crib is called a "pinnasänky" in Finnish, but if this term refers to adults' beds, it would be a railing, perhaps with "pinna", (vertical bars) on it. Summa summarum: if this is a children's bed, it could be called a side/siding if it's an adult bed, the siding is probably lower, making it a railing of sorts. |

extra rails Explanation: Presuming this is an add-on to a child's cot (or crib) until it is safe to do without. "Pinna" in this case is a vertical rail. |

bed side rails Explanation: or extra side rails, or just side rails (whichever works better in your context) see e.g. http://www.dhsspsni.gov.uk/niaic/safety_notices/1999/san99-5... http://www.ec-online.net/Knowledge/Articles/siderails.html |

The side rails or side members are the long, thick rails that form the sides of the bed. Safety rails are extra side rails, often used on bunk beds and children's beds. I speak with some authority here, as (for my sins) I ran a pine bed factory for 20 years... |
