My MOT lakisanakirja doesn't know - any ideas? It's the opposite of a fixed term contract, i.e. continues in force until either party terminates it. Rolling contact? Open-ended contract?

Thanks, urbom! One of your links confirmed my own hunch: "Terms w/Rollover: contains enforceable time span and then rolls over to open-ended contract at the end of the contract term". I added the word 'permanent' to make the meaning absolutely clear: "fixed term contract that rolls over to open-ended (permanent) contract at the end of the contract term". A bit cumbersome and belt-and-braces, but you can't be too accurate with legal terms!

Thanks to Marju and Natalia, too - your links are sure to come in handy next time anyone's stuck with a contract of employment.
