Hi Yngve, "payment instalment" sounds even better, now that we know what's what. It makes sense that inventor fees could be paid in instalments, a bit like royalties.
Yngve Roennike (asker) Mar 20, 2007:
YR How about instalment, since the number of payment steps for paying inventor fees seems to be 3 in all
Sami Mills Seppälä (X) Mar 20, 2007:
Hi Yngve,
If there are several steps involved, I think a literal translation is your best bet. I must admit that the whole concept of "maksun vaihe" in a pay slip sounds a bit unusual. Do you have any further information as to what the steps could be?

payment status

Hi Yngve,
More context would be helpful, but I think "maksun vaihe" refers to 'payment status'. It means literally "payment stage" but 'payment status' seems to produce more credible hits in Google.

Hi Yngve,
If there are several steps involved, I think a literal translation is your best bet. I must admit that the whole concept of "maksun vaihe" in a pay slip sounds a bit unusual. Do you have any further information about what the steps here could be?
Example sentence:

Once the payment is authorized, the payment status on eHEAT is “payable.” Payment information can be edited when the payment status is “payable.”

eHEAT sends payment information to Finance using a batch process run at night. When the batch process runs, the payment status becomes “in progress.” No edits can be made when the payment status is “in progress.”

Note from asker:
I wonder about that. It has to do with remuneration to inventors who are also employees. Literally, as you say, payment step, stage, phase. Probably best to translate literally. What do you think?
Also, there seems to be at least two of those "steps," i.e., steps 1 and 2.
