This is confusing, as http://www.authentic-antiques.com/images/cheminee-ancienne_l... labels the timber bevel of the fire surround as contre-coeur. One certainly couldn't use timber in the other instances! I now tend to think that the "coeur" is the firebox and a "contre-couer" could be any element at a roughly 45° angle to the back of the firebox. However, one would be unlikely to see a glass fireback, while glass bevels are rather more likely. |
