French term or phrase: Définition Numérique
Part of a book. The text is discussing how a manager issued specifications and "une definition numerique" to suppliers.

Not sure if "definition numerique" should be translated literally as I can't find an results for it like that.

My second thought was "numerical standards"

digital definition
Explanation:
I think the literal translation works — but numérique means digital, not numerical.

"Model Based Definition - Capturing and conveying manufacturing requirements
Model Based Definition enables the production of a complete digital definition of a product within a 3D model, thus replacing a traditional drawing."

"Any form of representation of the physical artefact, e.g. a digital definition (possibly incomplete) of a design or a photograph of a product that has been produced"

Or "digital description": in practice, "définition" sometimes means description.

agree  Daryo: that's what would make sense - assuming that the assumed context is the right one. Context seems to be dirty word ...

-> Thanks, Daryo. It certainly would be useful to have the context, but if we're dealing with "Cars & Trucks" this seems likely.

digital standard

Explanation:
Why not 'digital standard'? I suppose the manager details the word length, a transmission protocol or how a checksum is computed and added, or similar to maintain data integrity, privacy, etc..

The Digital Standard is a technical standard, which offers product testing criteria for software and Smart devices. Consumers or manufacturers can use the standards to evaluate the extent to which a product protects various digital rights including consumer privacy, information security, freedom of speech, and product ownership.
:
The digital standard makes 4 assertions about digital rights:

1. manufacturers should provide information security with their products
2. manufacturers should provide Internet privacy with their products
3. manufacturers should design products for consumer ownership
4. manufacturers should be ethical and accountable for whatever impact their products have

Standard
The Digital Service Standard is a set of 18 criteria to help government create and run good digital services.

All public facing transactional services must meet the standard. It’s used by departments and the Government Digital Service to check whether a service is good enough for public use.

disagree  Daryo: makes no sense - it's not any manager's business to decide standards. You have DIN AFNOR SAE GOST etc for that ...

-> Perhaps not for you, but for me! We always had company standards based on other standards and modified accordingly.
