Compare in German zum.. kündigen > tenant or landlord give notice to quit expiring on a date when vacation needs to take place: another professional negligence case at my Central London translation office when, years after the translation, a local firm of Solicitors queried the tenant needing 'at the end of the year to give one year's notice' of a lease in Frankfurt am Main.
