agree  Didier Fourcot: Or PBX, "A" is for automatic, the manual type is obsolete since decades

  -> Merci, Didier ! Yes, indeed! But just as the FR keeps the 'auto', so is the 'A' still commonly retained in EN, as I have seen in many documents right up to the present.
