The term seems to have a lot of meanings, and the most promising one seems to be "skillful theft," like unauthorized access of a file on a system (??).

agree  Nikki Scott-Despaigne: "Subtiliser" is basically a synoym of "to steal" but with subtlety and skill. In context, misappropriation is a good idea.
