French term or phrase: poutres rayonnantes crémaillères
Full sentence: "L’hémicycle de l’Assemblée en forme de cône renversé est constitué de poutres rayonnantes crémaillères en béton armé"
As far as I can find out, the term "crémaillère" usually refers to beams supporting staircases, but in this case? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

radial stepped beams (?)
Explanation:
Hard to know what this is exactly without MORE CONTEXT and/or a drawing.
I imagine the "cremaillère" bit refers to the beams having steps or notches on them, as the beams supporting stairs; presumably as bearings for ring beams completing the cone structure.

I take the "rayonnant" to mean "radiating outwards" (radial) rather than "radiating heat" (not impossible as an HVAC option).

Thanks for your help. Re your comment about a drawing - wouldn't it be nice if texts to be translated always came with a diagram? Unfortunately this is rarely the case so we just have to guess at the meaning.
