protection AC fall protection Explanation: I have just once come across it abbreviated thus — so I'd say it's perhaps not common! However, if you have the 'plan' of this 'module', it will presumably tell you if that is indeed what it's about? -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 jour1 heure (2017-06-04 07:13:17 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Asker, I think it is rare because this is not a 'standard', widely-used abbreviation, but more like in-house jargon, and so found in the kind of documents less often to be found on the 'Net. In my case, it was used in one internal document, after an initial explanation in full — I'm sure simply to avoid cumbersome repetition. I think there is a danger when translating an abbreviation in FR that may or may not be 'standard' to seek to 'invent' an abbreviation of its translation, even when this will be non-standard in EN; the problem is, unless it is first glossed, the EN reader will be left puzzling! I recently translated a longg document with a 4-letter abbreviation that I was obliged to spell out in full (all 4 words of it) each time it (frequently!) recurred, as no equivalent 'standard' abbreviation exists in EN, and I did not have the option of glossing it. |
