French term or phrase: liaison douce
Afin de coller à son environnement urbain, la Ville a développé une liaison douce entre [shopping centre] et le centre historique avec un cheminement piéton, une voie cyclable ainsi qu’un réseau de transports collectifs reliant ces deux parties.

Hi all,

In urban/town planning, this seems to suggest a link to the historical part of town (from a very modern block) that smooths the transition from new to old. Apart from the footpath, cycle path and public transport network, maybe its very green and has soft edges (see google images)!

Does anyone know if there's an equivalent expression in English, or how it might be translated if not.

Thanks
David

English translation:soft link
Explanation:
I suspect that the French is taken from the English term, which is borrowed from "soft landscaping". It means a non-motor-vehicle link or route that integrates planting.

"This soft link ensures urban continuity between the districts of North-East Paris (McDonald’s warehouse/Claude Bernard) and ‘Millénaire’ where, by 2016, 1,700 Ministry of Justice civil servants and 2,200 Véolia employees will be working. "

"Cette liaison douce assure par ailleurs une continuité urbaine entre le quartier Paris Nord-Est (Entrepôt Macdonald/Claude Bernard) et celui du « Millénaire », qui accueillera en 2016 1700 fonctionnaires du Ministère de la Justice et 2 200 salariés de Véolia."

Thank you! I also found a reference to "soft mobility" which seems to relate to this.

Explanation:
Actually I have not come across the expression "liaison douce" in English, but from the photos and illustrations in google, it can be translated as "separate passage"

motor-free roads

Explanation:
Hello!

Please see this defintion:

The fact that they are "links" is understood. That's what roads and pathways do.

I sure hope it helps a little.
