French to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Construction / Civil Engineering
French term or phrase:DUE
Helo all This is especially troublesome because Google doesn't support case-specific searches, so searching for "DUE" brings up to 837m hits, even when combined with constraining terms. So I need to find someone who knows what it might mean in this context: The Client is an engineering firm specializing in construction, public works, energy and metal. The document is one of several "Procedure" flowcharts for RFP management, project management, prospecting & sales, etc. The troublesome flowchart is "The Design Process". The section is "Change Management" The acronym appears in the "Input Data" column as " Exigences client en matière de **DUE** " I have some hunches but I'd only be grasping at straws. Any post-hols ideas?? :-)
In light of the ambiguities raised, I have to refer this back to the client (who may or may not reply) so have to 'close without grading' -- but with many thanks to all who have made the effort to think about it and reply. I'm grateful as always! :-)
Presumably everyone here already knows that DOE is basically the 'as-built file'; so in fact, Phil's suggestion could be plausible... but equally, might not be: sadly, we're not much further forward :-(
Risky assumption but certainly possible, hadn't thought of that. I haven't noticed any other typos though so far in 20k words. I can't get hold of the client though, they're shut over Christmas/NY. I suspect I'll just leave it as is and advise them to let me know by return what it means. (The last time I queried an acronym with them, they said not to bother and they deleted the sentence...)
Step 8 in the flowchart is "Gestion des modifications", for which the "DONNEES D'ENTREE" is ""Demandes Chargé d'affaire, Client et/ou BE, chantier, usines, ST Fiche de demande de modification" Step 9 is "Dossier DOE (Partie Etudes)" for which the DONNEES D'ENTREE" is "Documents Etudes. Exigences client en matière de **DUE**" Step 10 talks about feedback, customer satisfaction surveys, etc
A 'déclaration UE' is a specific Social Security procedure — it would not become a 'demande' as you imply. I think this whole HR notion is a red herring... I think it is much more likely to be soemthing technical, like a request for modification / departure from original design etc. (which would be consistent with your 'change management') It would be immensely helpful if you would give us these snippets of context in the original FR instead of your draft translations of them.
Based on what you've given us, it doesn't seem to be anything to do with recruitment - it's about change management in the design process. I'm not sure there's any point guessing, and I'd just put a translator's note saying "unknown abbreviation".
Ok, so perhaps "Demande" instead of "Déclaration"??, ie, Client's special skills or hiring requirements (Client may specify it wants xx to be used [it happens], or Client requirements may require special skills to be brought it, or am I reaching too far...?) URSSAF requires a prior "Demande Unique d'Embauche" when a worker is brought termporarily into a company.
Assuming it's an acronym, and since it's in the "input data" column, D could stand for "données". Or it could be "design". But as you say, we're grasping at straws. What are the hunches you mention?
