I'd be wary of calling these "edge caps" because rebar protection caps are something quite different from what I found for the French term. See pictures here: https://www.orbitalfasteners.co.uk/en/categories/rebar-end-p... I've done another brief search and think that "bent edge bars" is a possible translation. Here are a couple of sites showing something rather similar to the French ones, but they seem to use U-bars or J-bars, while the French pics seem to show just a single bend. Thanks Charles for your confidence. However, I don't know. I'd guess these would be called L-bars, except that the long side is a bit long for an L. This is one for Bourth (those who are responsible for him leaving the site should be ashamed of themselves). That was exactly my feeling too, and why I didn't post it as an answer: L-bar expresses the shape but "chapeau de rive" expresses the function. And in line with that I think there are L-bars that are not "chapeaux de rive".

You may well be right about "cap". I'd like to hear from B D Finch on this; she knows a lot about concrete.

In fact I think 'L-bar' describes its form, rather than its function, as in FR. But I think your later reference actually gives a partial answer: as I initially imagined, the 'chapeau' here is almost certainly a 'cap'; your ref. talks about capping the edge of the slab, so possibly 'edge cap' — however, by 'rive' here, I don't know if they mean the edge of the slab, or, conversely, the endge of the surrounding wall.

This is outside my area of expertise. It looks like an L-bar in images, but whether that's an adequate translation I'm really not sure. However, if not, maybe it will help someone find the right term.

No, not sure at all! I thought "chapeau" was a concrete crossbar - but when I Google the FR term and look at images, they all seem to show steel bars.

Are you sure this terms relates to the steel reinforcing? I'd have though it was one of the non-steel components, like the 'hourdis' and 'poutrelles' (and the poured concrete referred to later).
