French term or phrase: valoriser
I am translating a letter and a learning agreement for a client and can't work out how to translate "valoriser" in this context.
Any ideas would be very welcome!

I am aware that it appears in the glossary several times but none of the entries seem to work here!

Context:

"Vous avez demandé à valoriser votre projet de création ou reprise d’activité au titre de votre stage de … .

Nous avons le plaisir de vous informer que votre demande a été reçue favorablement et que nous vous autorisons à valoriser votre stage, et les crédits correspondants, par la réalisation de votre projet entrepreneurial."

Thanks in advance!

English translation:to obtain credit for
Explanation:
You'll need to re-work the entire sentence in order to fit this in, of course — but the underlying meaning is 'to make the most of'
What it usually means in this sort of context is that your 'practical experience' will be counted towards your qualification — possibly in terms of say an equivalent number of hours, or course 'credits' of some kind. This sort of thing happens a lot, especially where 'continuous assessment' is used.

As I see it, the person has either set-up or taken over a business, and the educational establishment is agreeing to 'let this count' a posteriori as the 'stage' part of their programme

capitalise on, build on, put to good use

Explanation:
This is my understanding of the French. The student would like to go on to the next step, building on the experience of the internship (or however you are going to translate 'stage'), and taking it further.

Explanation:
I think the sense of "capitalise on" is correct, expand is a more "neutral" way of stating that meaning in English.

-> Un stage est un stage ! Rien d'extraordinaire ! Pour valoriser un stage. il faut se surpasser! You non-native speakers of French do not appreciate the nuances of Voltaire's language!

disagree  Germaine: Cette traduction de "valoriser" s'appliquerait plutôt aux mines/minerais. Valoriser un stage n'est PAS "travailler fort/prendre des initiatives/se surpasser" and they're not asking to upgrade the "project". Read your suggestion in context: it doesn't fit.

validate

Explanation:
As it is obviously from a training centre/university/school, the goal is to create a company instead of doing an internship, so to validate the credits of the internship by creating the company.

Example sentence(s):
  • We grant you the authorisation to validate your internship, and the corresponding credits, with the achievement of your entrepreneurial project
